The SUBRETIA Wine Country Apartments are nestled in the heart of the Umbrian wine country, on a hill surrounded by the age-old vineyards of the ROCCA DI FABBRI wine cellars in the Montefalco area.
The sisters Roberta and Simona Vitali inherited from their father their life-long passion for the production of fine wines and love for the region. Years ago they began the development of these 18 charming apartments to unite the culture of fine wine to that of fine hospitality, bringing to life this new way of enjoying central Umbria.
The Concept
The concept that animates SUBRETIA is not just the desire to give full value to the Montefalco area, but to create a down-to-earth and elegant interaction between nature, tourism and the culture of fine wines.
The reconstruction of extant stone structures into 18 charming frescoed apartments is the result of years of work by local artisans and artists alike. The cobblestone and pebble pathways that trace the grounds make for that unique “village” feeling.
The classic formed Italian garden with ample open yard contains a charming lotus shaped swimming pool, and the entire complex gives onto marvellous views of Trevi and the mountains in the distance.
Journey within a Journey
The unique frescoes and creative tromp l’oiels that animate the apartments take the guests on a journey within a journey, recalling places and spirits from near and far, giving a magical feeling to their vacation. The apartments he Standard Suite
The Standard Suites are from 25 to 40 sq mts and are fully equipped to permit the guests to create their own fine meals. Each suite has a kitchen, living and dining room, bedroom and bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, safety box and fresh bed/bath linens.
The Superior Suite
The Superior Suites are from 41 to 60 sq mts, with air conditioning, kitchen, living and dining room, bedroom and bathroom, satellite TV, safe, direct dial telephone and fresh bed and bath linens. As the Standard suites, also here the kitchen has all the equipment for the creation of a fine meal. YOUR STAY The swimming pool
In the midst of the Italian garden is a charming panoramic lotus shaped swimming pool with central fountain, hydro massage and children’s area. From here the view, as you refresh yourself in the cool water, is stunning – the entire central valley of Umbria opens itself up from Trevi, up on the hill surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, to Spoleto.
The sundeck
Jutting out from the apartments on the second floor, going towards the pool, is a sundeck. From here the view is marvellous. A place for sunning, for enjoying a glass of wine around one of the tables at sunset as the lights of the valley come on, for playing a hand of cards in the fresh evening breeze or for a cappuccino in the morning.
The grounds
The apartments are situated in the midst of an Italian garden, with fragrant plants and colourful bushes native to the area. A spacious green lawn gives a sense of enormous space and a lily pond with a small family of frogs provide a true country soundtrack accompanied by the chirping of crickets and the singing of birds. Cobbled pathways lead from one part to the other of this tranquil “village”.

The resident manager has all you need to find your way around Umbria and enjoy it to the hilt: maps, brochures, museum times, special events and train schedules. Full of advise and ready to help solve any sort of problem, the office hours are flexible.
Wine tourism
No visit to the area is complete without a visit to the wine cellars of the ROCCA DI FABBRI, a few meters from Subretia. Sample the marvels of the doc and docg wines and learn all about how a grape becomes a magical wine. These visits are free for the guests of Subretia.

In the heart of Umbria, Subretia is the ideal spot for moving about the entire area. Spend the day seeing the mediaeval hilltop towns Umbria is so famous for, go for an invigorating hike in the Valnerina hills and mountains, take a walk in the vast vineyards, rent a bike or go horseback riding. There is so much to see and do! How to reach us From the south follow the A1 Autostrada and exit at ORTE. Follow the signs to TERNI, SPOLETO in the direction of FOLIGNO. From the north follow the A1 Autostrada and exit at VALDICHIANA. Follow the signs PERUGIA, then pass FOLIGNO in direction SPOLETO, exiting at TREVI/MONTEFALCO (circa 110 km). The Subretia Wine Country Apartments are in FABBRI, circa 5 km before Montefalco. Our signs will help you to find us.
